TAKE BACK THE MEANING OF THE WORDS DEFINING SUSTAINABILITY

About our cause

We live in a world of dwindling natural resources. The principle of sustainability offers a roadmap for managing what we have left. Yet as we attempt to put our world back in balance, we’ve seen the term “sustainability” grossly misused, its meaning hijacked, turned into hollow sounding marketing jingles. In response, we've turned the work of nearly 200 thought-leaders into information artworks, pop up shows, and short films that help “take back” the meaning of these important ideas.

What population we serve?

We educate, engage and activate everyone from students to farmers to parents to activists interested in creating a healthier, safer food system.

What success we've already had

We have documented over 200 thought leaders who define the conversation about sustainability in food and farming in the USA. We will have over 500 Pop Up Shows hosted by citizen curators around the USA in 2012, making it one of the largest public art shows of its kind in the USA. We are making short films and producing a book as well.

Our primary mission
The Lexicon project is based on a simple premise: people can’t be expected to live more sustainable lives if they don’t even know the most basic terms and principles that define sustainability.

Why should you support our cause

We work closely with thought leaders to define the most important terms and ideas to know about regarding sustainability in food and farming in the US

How the money will be spent

Funding will allow us to create study + activity guides for our images. These will be given away , free of charge, to schools + community groups around the US, so the most insightful and innovative ideas in our project can educate and activate a broad audience both inside + outside the classroom.
