Beautiful aromas of red fruits, white flowers and a minerality reminiscent of iron. The palate shows copious amounts of bramble berries and spice with a lingering savory finish. The wine is enjoyable now and should also benefit from cellaring for up to 5 plus years.

Fable Background

Storytelling has long been a part of life and the culture of South Africa. Fable aspires to tell its own story through the three wines produced at this magical farm.

Located on the awe-inspiring, rugged slopes of the Witzenberg Mountains in the Western Cape of South Africa, Fable focuses on producing pure expressions of old bush vine Chenin Blanc and red Rhone varieties. The 15 hectares of estate vineyards are planted in soils of ancient rock, shale and schist at an elevation ranging from 500 to 600 meters. The vineyards are tucked at the base of the soaring Witzenberg Mountain range, providing a unique and challenging growing environment. On the fringes of the frontier and facing challenging weather conditions, extreme wildlife and natural dangers, the vineyard is peacefully and biodynamically farmed. Fable strives to be one with the environment, thriving off of a diversified agricultural system that includes livestock.

Winemaker Rebecca Tanner and partner and viticulturalist Paul Nichols live on the farm with their children and dogs. They are relentless in their pursuit of perfection from this untamed vineyard site, braving leopards, baboons, poisonous snakes, fires and isolation to bring you these wines.

The production philosophy is one of restraint in the cellar so as to showcase the uniqueness of the terroir. All wines are fermented with natural, wild yeasts in French oak casks, concrete eggs or stainless steel tanks. The red wines are fermented as whole clusters lending more aromatics and texture to the wines.

This wine is not made by Cultivate Wines, but from one of our sister brands under the Terroir Selections umbrella. Each wine is made and shipped by the respective winery.
