Sandhi Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir

This wine showcases all the exuberance of Santa Rita Hills and is a blend of our vineyard holdings in the area. Half of the fruit comes from the 40 year-old vines at the Sanford & Benedict vineyard with the rest from our sections and younger vines at Rita’s Crown and Bent Rock. It has bright, shiny, crunchy black raspberry fruit with great aromatic lift of fruit, flowers and cola spice. The wine is delicious now and will age gracefully for another 5-7 years.

Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County.

Climate

Maritime, with cold winds and fog and strong diurnal temperature variations.

Soil

Well drained Diatomaceous earth and clay-loam.

Vineyards planted predominantly on northfacing hillsides which receive less sun exposure.

Background

Sandhi, an ancient Sanskrit word meaning alliance or collaboration, reflects the partnership of its creators. Rajat Parr, Charles Banks and Sashi Moorman founded Sandhi to focus on producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from unique vineyard sites throughout the Sta. Rita Hills appellation in Santa Barbara County. The wines represent a collaboration between man, earth, climate and vineyard.

The individual vineyards from which these grapes originate - some legendary and some new discoveries - have been exhaustively vetted for character, personality and balance. Sandhi is dedicated to making expressive wines of finesse, minerality, acidity, structure and balance. We believe wine achieves power and balance through the seamless integration of these qualities. This is the inspiration for Sandhi.

Winemaking

We go to great lengths to protect the vibrancy, freshness and energy that makes wines from the Sta. Rita Hills so unique. All wines are wild-yeast fermented. We prefer neutral barrel and concrete vessels but do employ a small amount of new French oak. All Chardonnays go through malolactic fermentation but the lees are not stirred nor re-suspended. Most Pinot Noirs are whole-cluster fermented because we feel this approach creates wines that smell beautifully, have great cola spice, and offer more complex textures. All wines are unrefined and unfiltered with zero additions of water, sugar, acid or enzymes.

This wine is not made by Cultivate Wines, but from one of our sister brands under the Terroir Selections umbrella. Each wine is made and shipped by the respective winery.
